GED Information

Testing Dates Below

Students under the age of 18 who are being home schooled and want to receive their GED must now go through their local ESD to receive the proper paper work in order to take the GED test. The Home School Registrar will meet with the student and parents to determine if the student is eligible to take the GED test. To be eligible for GED testing students must be at least 16 years of age, and have an independent 8th grade reading level (in English or Spanish). You will also be asked to show proof of age.

The GED Test Battery consists of five tests:

  • Reading
  • Social Studies
  • Science
  • Mathematics
  • Writing

The math test is in two parts. Part one requires the use of a graphing calculator. No calculator is allowed for part two. The writing test is also in two parts. Part one is multiple choice, and part two consists of writing a 200 word essay on an assigned topic.

Upon completion of testing, the Department of Community Colleges and Workforce Development awards a Certificate of General Educational Development to individuals satisfactorily meeting requirements for issuance of the certificate as established by the State Board of Education. Requirements of issuance of the certificate include a minimum standard score of 410 or more on each of the five tests, and an overall average standard score of 450 or more.
