Eligibility Requirements

There are many ways to determine your eligibility for OHP if you live in Oregon and are a U.S citizen or an eligible non-citizen.
Follow the steps below to see if all or part of your family qualifies for OHP.
NOTE: It is always best to contact an Eligiblity Specialist even if you are not sure that you meet the income criteria because there are many different ways of determining eligibility.


Instructions for reading current income chart :
  1. Using the Income Guidelines chart below, find your family size in the first column. Include everyone who lives in your home. If you are pregnant, include the unborn child as a family member.
  2. Follow that row across until you find your family average gross monthly income.
  3. Read explanations for Column A,B or C to see what applies to you or your family members.

Column A:
Pregnant women or children under 19 may be eligible if income is less than the amount in this column.

Column B:
Children under age six, and pregnant women and their unborn children may be eligible.
Children age six through 18 may also be eligible for CHIP(subject to available State funds) if they:

  • Are currently uninsured, and
  • Have been uninsured for the last six months (not including OHP coverage)
  • This rule does not apply to children with life-threatening or disabling conditions.

Column C:
Pregnant women and their unborn children may be eligible for the OHP.
Children from birth through 18 may also be eligible for CHIP(subject to available state funds) if they:

  • Have less that $10,000 in resources
  • Are currently uninsured, and
  • Have been uninsured for the last six months (not including OHP coverage)
  • This rule does not apply to children with life-threatening or disabling conditions.

Column D:
Children would not be eligible for neither OHP (Medicaid) nor CHIP. However, if one of the children attends a participating elementary school and not be enrolled in any other health insurance, public or private, they may be eligible for Kaiser Permanente Child Health Program.
